◆Hamirpur district is associated with the Katoch dynasty. Earlier it was a part of Jalandhar-Trigarta empire. Raja Hamir Chand build the fort at Hamirpur and present name of town was derived from this ruler. It is also known as Martyr's Land.
◆The climate of Hamirpur district was not very cold in winters as it is situated closer to plain areas. But the temperature is hot during summers.
◆According to the 2011 census, Hamirpur district has a population of 454768 including 217070 males and 237698 females. This gives it ranking of 550 out of 640 in India. It has a population density of 410 per square kilometers or 1100 per square metres. Hamirpur district has a sex ratio of 1095 females per 1000 males. It has a literacy rate of 100%. That's why it is the most educated district of Himachal Pradesh. There are Hindus as the most of the population of this district.
●Hamirpur district has five sub-divisions as Hamirpur, Barsar, Nadaun, Sujanpur & Bhoranj.
This district is divided in 10 tehsils:
1) Hamirpur
2) Nadaun
3) Sujanpur
4) Badsar
5) Touni Devi
6) Bhoranj
7) Dhatwal {Bijhari}
8) Galore
9) Kangoo {sub tehsil}
10) Bhota {sub tehsil}
●Hamirpur has 1780 villages in the district.
●There are mainly three languages spoken in this district are Hindi, Pahari & Punjabi.
◆Hamirpur district is also a known tourist place in Himachal Pradesh. There are many tourist places to visit. Some tourist places are like Sujanpur Tira Fort, Awah Devi Temple, Tauni Devi Temple, Nadaun Fort, Deotsidh Temple, Narbadeshwar Temple & many more.
You can also do some adventure activities like Paragliding, Angling, Rafting & trekking etc.
There are some famous and budget friendly hotels to stay like heera heights, maya hotel and gautam hetel and many more.
