Kangra is a tourist spot located in Manjhi and Bener streams in Indian state Himachal Pradesh. Between the Dhauladhar Range and the Shivalik Range, this city is located in the Kangra valley and the Banganga stream is visible. It is also commonly known as Dev Bhoomi, which means the residence of Gods. According to the Vedas, various non-Aryan tribal communities lived here before the arrival of the Aryans. In the great Indian epic Mahabharata, Kangra has been referred to as a triangular state.

Kangra city came under the rule of Muslims after the attack by Muhammad Ghazni in the 10th century. After this, the Katoch dynasty came under the rule of the oldest surviving dynasty. After the conclusion of the first Anglo-Sikh war, Kangra was captured by the British. In 1846, it became a district of colonial India. After the partition of India in 1947, it became a part of Punjab in 1947, but it was transferred to Himachal Pradesh in 1966.

➤Kangra district lies between 31˚ 21′ to 32˚ 59′ N latitude and 75˚ 47′ 55″ to 77˚ 45′ E longitude. Kangra district has an area of 5739 square kilometres. There are 3906 villages in the district. It has total population of 1,510,075.

➤Travelers can visit various beautiful tourist spots like Kareri Lake, Baghmukhi Temple and Kalshwar Mahadev Temple in Kangra. The Majestic Kariyi lake, situated at an elevation of 2934 meters at sea level, can be reached by a tracking route. The lake meets the melting ice of the water dholadhara range. Attractions like Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple and Shivalinga set below ground level attract many people to this destination.

●Haripur-Guler, which displays the heritage of Guler principality and the Brajeshwari temple is also famous in Kangra's famous tourist spots. The Brajeshwari Temple is a pilgrimage center where a large number of devotees visit every day. Under the Ramsar Convention, Wetland, Maharana Pratap Sagar attracts many tourists seeing the birds, because different species of migratory birds can be seen here. Kotla Fort, located on the highway between Shahpur and Noorpur in Kangra, is very popular among tourists.

Travelers from the fort can see spectacular views because it is located on top of a single peak and offers excellent views around the deep valleys. This fort was built under the protection of the kings of Guller. The bespoke temple attracts tourists to Kangra, situated on the main gate of the fort. Located at a distance of 15 km from South Kangra, Masaroor Temple complex is one of the main tourist destinations of Kangra. Built in the 10th century and composed of a piece of rock in the Indo-Aryan architectural style, it looks like Ajanta-Ellora temple. There are 15 temples in the premises, in which the main temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Ram, Lakshman (his brother), Sita (his wife) and Shiva (Hindu God of Destruction).

●Other tourist attractions of Kangra are Dhauladhar Range, Brijeshwari Temple, Nadoun, Kathgarh, Jawli G Temple, Kangra Art Gallery, Sujangpur Fort, Judge Court, and Shiva Temple. Dharamshala, Behna Mahadev, Pong Lake Sanctuary, Sidhantan Temple, Mcleod Ganj, Taragarh Palace, and other major attractions of the Narkakot Fort. International Himalayan Festival, organized annually in the month of December, is a popular festival of this area. This festival is celebrated in memory of the Dalai Lama being awarded the Nobel Prize for his peace efforts.

The main purpose of this festival is to increase harmony among the Tibetans. In addition to sightseeing, visitors can do trekking, where in order to pass through Kangra, you can explore the magnificent landscape here. Many adventure trekking routes lead to places like Kareri Lake and Masaroor Temple.

●Passengers can also start a journey of beautiful Chamba Valley from Kanga. Tracking routes are known loca pass, commonly known as Indra-hara pass, and Minkany is the most popular tracking route of this area. Five other important trekking routes in the Kangra valley are nearby Dharamshala-Laaka pass, McLeodganj-Minikeni pass-Chamba, Dharamshala-Talang pass, Baijnath-Parai Jote and Bhim-Gastouri.
